CB 3 Meeting of the Parks, Recreation, Waterfront & Resiliency Committee

Thursday October 10, 6:30pm BRC Senior Services Center, 30 Delancey Street (between Chrystie and Forsyth Streets)

The Department of Design and Construction will present the City’s preferred alternative and will answer questions that are specifically about the park’s design. Come prepared with your questions and comments.

If you haven’t read the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) there is still time! ( The deadline for submission of comments on the FEIS is October 15th. The public’s comments as well as the authors’ response to those comments are particularly interesting.

Here you can see the Alliance’s comments below (link and download)

Essential points

Overall, we find the DEIS to be incomplete and, and in some areas, woefully inaccurate, particularly in the following:

  • No safety/flood provisions if an extreme coastal storm occurs during construction
  • Very few mitigations for the loss of half our open space for years
  • Significant underestimation of impacts on public health during construction
  • Little to no consideration of the impact of this project on environmental justice communities and socioeconomic conditions
  • Unprecedented destruction of natural resources

We all understand that climate change is real and that we must act, but there is too much at stake for the City to push this project through without an honest appraisal of its adverse impacts, and strong, clear advocacy from our representatives.

Not only is health, well-being, and justice for our community on the line, the very quality of our democracy in the age of climate crisis rests on how elected and appointed officials respond to community demands for transparency, accuracy, and honesty.

There is still time to contact your City Council Member directly, and ask her to vote NO on the City’s disastrous plan!
