You can still submit testimony on the DEIS

If you haven’t read the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) there is still time! (https://www1.nyc.gov/site/escr/progress/environmental-review.page) The Environment Committee is consolidating our comments on the DEIS for the East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) to prepare a synthetic statement. The City’s preferred plan will use 8-10 feet of fill to elevate the East River shoreline, from Montgomery St. to 25th St. This will separate NYC residents from their waterfront parks for at least three years, and destroy or displace every living thing in the parks.

What should I say?

If you’ve read a section of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement, explain why you think the City is underestimating the negative impacts—either during or following construction—of the City’s plan to bury the park under eight feet of fill. If you haven’t read this long and depressing document, then talk about what moves you.

Subjects covered in the ESCR DEIS include:
• land use and zoning,
• socioeconomic conditions,
• open space,
• historic and cultural resources,
• urban design and visual character,
• natural resources,
• hazardous materials,
• water and sewer infrastructure,
• transportation,
• neighborhood character, and
• environmental justice.
